Changing your SMTP Settings in OS X Mail

Many ISPs have begun restricting the ability to send email via an SMTP server other than their own. This is not particularly serious problem as you can always send email via their SMTP server. This document walks you through the steps of changing your SMTP settings.

There are several steps to take when changing from using mail.42inc.com:

1) The fist step requires that you find out the name of the SMTP server your Internet Service Provider (ISP) will allow you to use (42, Inc. is your email provider). The following example will use SBC as an example.

2) Open Mail and choose Preferences:

3) Choose Accounts and highlight the account to edit.

4) Choose Server Settings:

Change the SMTP Server to smtp.sbcglobal.net (or whatever your ISP told you).

4) Uncheck the "Use Secure Socket Layer (SSL)"

5) Change Authentication to None.

Click OK. That's it, you're done.
